The Rad Power Bikes RadWagon 5 represents a massive evolutionary leap for what is arguably the most recognizable long-tail cargo e-bike on the market. Rad Power completely went back to the drawing board to fix the quirks of previous generations, shifting from an oversized frame to a lower, tighter, and infinitely more stable mid-step platform.

The biggest upgrades are under the hood: it swaps out the old, laggy cadence sensor for a beautifully responsive torque sensor, drops down to smaller wheels for a ultra-low center of gravity, and introduces the Safe Shield battery, which encapsulates individual cells in a thermal-resistant resin to prevent overheating and fire risks. It’s no longer just an entry-level utility hauler; it’s a highly refined, automotive-grade family minivan on two wheels.

• Battery & Safety: Powered by a 48V 15Ah (720Wh) Safe Shield Advanced Battery (UL 2271 certified). This unique pack uses space-age potting material around the LG/Samsung cells to isolate thermal events, pushing a reliable real-world range of 20 to 60 miles.
• Drivetrain & Speed: Operates with a class-switchable programming suite. It ships as a Class 2 e-bike (20 mph max via pedal assist or half-twist throttle) but can easily be unlocked via the menu into a Class 3 speedster capable of 28 mph, governed by a reliable Shimano 7-speed drivetrain.
• Brakes & Ride Quality: Stopped predictably by heavy-duty Tektro hydraulic disc brakes designed specifically to handle heavy cargo loads. The ride is majorly cushioned by a 45mm travel front suspension fork (the first RadWagon to feature front suspension) and custom-engineered 20x3.3-inch urban tires that provide an exceptionally stable, confidence-inspiring ride.
